Yesterday, India and Bangladesh locked horns in the final of the 2018 Asia Cup at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Prior to the match, the odds were heavily stacked against Mashrafe Mortaza’s men, however, they came out all guns blazing and gave the Men in Blue a run for their money. Eventually, it was Rohit Sharma’s men who came out trumps by three wickets.

Moreover, they also stormed to their seventh Asia Cup championship, the most by any team thus far. India won the toss and had absolutely no hesitation to field. The start turned out to be equivalent to a nightmare for them as Liton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz laid on to the Indian bowling attack and notched a useful 120-run partnership for the opening wicket.

India storm to seventh Asia Cup title

The duo was separated by Kedar Jadhav after which the Tigers lost their way somewhat. Das went on to rack up his maiden century in ODI cricket. India picked up the ten Bangladeshi wickets for 102 runs and bowled their opponents out for 222 runs inside 50 overs. Apart from the right-handed Das and Mehidy, only Soumya Sarkar could enter the double figures with a score of 33.

The run-chase wasn’t expected to be a hard grind for Rohit’s side by any means, but they almost made a meal of it owing to losing wickets at crunch moments. They required six runs to win off the last over with tailender Kuldeep Yadav and a limping Kedar Jadhav in the middle. However, both didn’t panic and took India home. Meanwhile, KL Rahul hailed every player of Indian team as a match winner.

Rahul got to play only one match in the event in the Super 4 against Afghanistan in which he scored 60 runs opening the batting. Following India’s victory, he uploaded a picture on Instagram where his team can be seen lifting the trophy. He captioned the picture and wrote, “Where every single member is a game changer and match winner. Seventh Asia Cup.”
