The Kings XI Punjab had a poor outing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season. They finished 7th in the points table to do no good to their fortunes this year as well. While the team results were largely not in their favor, a few players in the side tasted great success. KL Rahul was the star performer for the Kings with the bat and Andrew Tye was the top draw in the bowling department.
Coming into the season, the team promised to play fearless cricket under the leadership of their new ‘unpredictable’ captain, Ravichandran Ashwin. Ashwin did manage to surprise on a few occasions but the results did not go his way every time. Rahul, who amassed 659 runs in the season at an average of over 54, recently spoke in the favour of his KXIP skipper in a conversation with KXIP.in, he remarked that the season has been a great learning experience for Ashwin.
“Obviously, it was a bit up and down because of the results but, we had a good time together. The first half was obviously a great way to start the tournament. And unfortunate for us and the captain that the second half did not go our way. But, yeah it was a great learning and I am sure it was a great experience for him (Ashwin) as a captain,” Rahul quoted.
‘He did a great job’
Adding further on the same, he pointed out that it is never easy for any captain to lead a young team. Considering the odds that stacked up against him, Ashwin did a fair job, reckoned KL Rahul. The captaincy trait that impressed him the most was Ashwin’s nature of giving quality feedback to the players time and again.
“Handling a young team is never easy, but, I think he did a great job. He’s given a lot of feedback to the players, what he thinks about where they can improve so these boys will definitely come back stronger, and his leadership would have helped a lot of players, a lot of bowlers, especially,” Rahul mentioned further.
