Mohammad Azharuddin’s biopic ‘Azhar’ is all set to hit the movie theaters this Friday. The actor of the movie, Emraan Hashmi, said in a recent interview that the makers, as well as the actor himself, knew that the biopic will drive a lot of controversies.

“We knew that this film will ruffle a few feathers because he was controversial and everyone got a perception,” quoted the actor.

Emraan Hashmi believes that the life of Mohammad Azharuddin has been so dramatic that controversies are bound to come in their way after the movie release. Reports were rife that Azharuddin’s ex-wife Sangeeta Bijlani and former Indian cricketer Manoj Prabhakar had threatened to sue the filmmakers for portraying them negatively in the movie. However, Emraan believes that the after watching the movie, things could either go worse for them or they might realize that they were overreacting.

“All these controversies were expected and I think when they will see the film all these speculations can go either ways. It could make things or worse or it could make them feel that they were over-reacting,” Emraan told PTI.

“When you are showing it through one person’s point of view, other people will feel the reality is something else,” he added.

When asked about how excited he was playing the lead role in the movie was, Emraan responded positively saying that Azharuddin’s story is that of a fallen hero. He found his story interesting and was excited about the role.

“I was actually very excited to play him. I felt there is a very special story about his life… His humble beginnings in Hyderabad, how he came to the Indian cricket team, became the captain and led India to so many victories,” said Emraan Hashmi.

“It’s a story of a fallen hero, which I found interesting. It is tragic when someone’s life is snatched away from him,” he cited further.

Speaking onAzharuddin, he said the former Indian cricketer, is a humble man and he bonded a lot with him by knowing stories about him. “He’s a great teacher. We bonded over a lot of conversations about his life. I had to understand his better. There was practice session for almost 3 hours everyday and I used to watch him and imbibe things from his game,” Emraan conceded.
