Indian captain Virat Kohli is in the middle of an amazing phase in his career at the moment. The right-hander recently made more than 500 runs in the 6-match ODI series against South Africa; the highest ever in a bilateral ODI series of 5-7 ODIs. Kohli is on number two in terms of hundreds in ODI cricket behind Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar.

Kohli registered his 35th hundred in the final ODI of the series which India sealed 5-1. Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly hailed the consistency of Kohli the batsman along with his leadership qualities. He feels that on the overseas tours outside the sub-continent, Kohli has done well and the victories will come soon.

“Kohli has done brilliantly. Overseas Test series wins will come – the only places he has captained India in full series are West Indies and South Africa,” said one of India’s most successful captains while talking to India Today.

Never seen someone perform so consistently

Ganguly said that he has seen MS Dhoni and Rahul Dravid lead the Indian side but he never saw anyone perform as consistent as Kohli while leading the team. “I have seen Rahul Dravid captain but I have never seen anyone perform this consistently with the bat as captain as Kohli has,” he further mentioned.

According to Dada, the upcoming series against England and Australia will define Kohli as the skipper. Ganguly also mentioned that he has seen a lot of players go through a purple patch during his career including the likes of Tendulkar, Dravid and his own but according to him Kohli is on the way to greatness. He also hailed the 29-year-old as a flag bearer of Indian cricket.

“Kohli is a flag bearer of Indian cricket. I have seen a lot of purple patches including mine, Dravid’s and Sachin Tendulkar’s. I genuinely believe that this is not just a purple patch for Kohli, this is genuine greatness,” said 45-year-old Ganguly.
