Prior to Sunday’s match between India and Pakistan at the Old Trafford in Manchester, there was a lot of hype and excitement. However, the marquee game of the 2019 World Cup turned out to be a drab affair. Virat Kohli and Co slapped their opponent with a defeat by 89 runs (DLS Method). At no point in time did the Men in Green look like they were in the contest let alone taking the upper hand. Among the many congratulatory messages was one from Kolkata Police.
Pakistan’s decision to field first backfired on them as India racked up 336 in their 50 overs. KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma started the carnage with a 136-run stand. Rahul got out on 57, but the 32-year-old Rohit notched his 24th ODI century and ended up with a 113-ball 140. Kohli also played a matured hand of 77 off 65 with seven fours. Coming out all guns blazing Hardik Pandya also churned out a cameo of 26 runs.
For Pakistan, Mohammad Amir was the most successful bowler with three wickets. When the opposition walked out to chase, Vijay Shankar gave India their first breakthrough coming into the attack to complete Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s over. Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam threatened with a stand of 104 runs for the second wicket. Zaman scored 62 while Babar got 48. Unfortunately for Pakistan, chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav got rid of both the batsmen in quick succession.
A thorough Indian domination
There on, Sarfaraz Ahmed’s men couldn’t scrip a comeback and it was just a matter of time. There was a rain delay after the 35th over of the innings and the revised target of 302 in 40 overs was set for them. It meant that they were needed to get 136 in the last five overs to win the match.
Imad Wasim did play a few shots and scored 46, but his efforts were never going to be enough for Pakistan to reach even close. With the victory, India continued their winning streak versus their arch-rivals in the World Cup, having won all their seven matches. As far as the points table is concerned, even as India moved to the third spot on the table, Pakistan finds itself in the ninth position with three points.

Meanwhile, Kolkata Police congratulated India over the thumping victory. They uploaded a collage of Sarfaraz and Virat. In the picture, Sarfaraz asked, “How do you win every time?”. Kohli replied saying “I am not supposed to tell you that”
