Delhi’s head coach KP Bhaskar has always been an ardent supporter of the now Delhi skipper Rishabh Pant. Bhaskar has always praised the left-handed batsman for his free-flowing attitude with the bat, and the aggression that he brings to the team.

The young wicketkeeper-batsman made his India debut against England in a T20I on the back of his strong show in the domestic circuit. But he couldn’t hold on to the place and since then hasn’t been in contention. In the previous edition of the IPL, there were a few temperamental issues exposed as well and Bhaskar feels Pant is a much improved cricketer after this experience.

“He may not be showing it, but deep down I’m sure he must be feeling it. Now that he is out of the [India] side, he has realised it and I’m sure he must be working hard on his temperament,” Bhaskar said. “His body language is the same as it was last year, but he looks much fitter, and his keeping has definitely improved,” he added.

Pant can replace MS Dhoni in the national team

Further, the coach also talked about how the talented Pant is just a few steps away from replacing the Indian wicketkeeper MS Dhoni from the limited overs team once the latter calls it a day from the game.

“I have always told him: it’s easy to play for India, but your preparations – mental, physical and technical – are what will help cement yourself. That’s more important. And age is by his side. His advantage is that he’s a keeper along with batsman. (MS) Dhoni has been around for some time, but once Dhoni hangs his boots, I’m sure he will be a prime man to fill his boots.” he concluded.
