Albeit chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav has turned out to be a brute force to reckon with for the Indian team in the white-ball formats, the youngster hasn’t quite been able to find his feet in Test cricket after making his debut in Dharamshala against Australia in 2017. He finished with a four-wicket haul in the first innings and thereafter couldn’t pick up a wicket in the second innings.

He got his next chance when India toured Sri Lanka a year ago. The 23-year-old churned out another four-fer but somehow couldn’t stay put in his position in the format. The Uttar Pradesh cricketer had to wait for nearly a year and he played his third match against England at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground. He was included owing to his impressive show in the ODIs and T20Is.

Kuldeep rips apart the Windies lineup

To his dismay, he couldn’t get a wicket in the nine overs he bowled. Kuldeep was subsequently omitted from the squad for the final two Tests. He returned home and honed his skills for India ‘A’. The spinner was then picked for the two-match series against the Windies. In the first innings of the first Test at SCA Stadium in Rajkot, he conceded runs at an economy of over a run-a-ball.

However, the pugnacious potential came into his in the second innings and notched his maiden five-wicket haul in Test cricket. The hapless Windies’ batsmen didn’t have the answers posed to them by Kuldeep. His spell fetched India their biggest win in Test cricket (by an innings). In the meantime, Saqlain Mushtaq, the former Pakistani cricketer hailed him as a special talent.

He took to Twitter and wrote, ”Many congratulations to Kuldeep Yadav. I have been watching him closely, his outstanding performance not only in England but now taking 5 wickets with his amazing spin attack against West Indies. There is a special talent in him & a bright future of Indian cricket,”
