The Kings XI Punjab started their IPL 2018 campaign like never before. Their good form has been the result of some impressive buys at the auction by Virender Sehwag and co. The team found a new captain in Ravichandran Ashwin and won matches after matches to remain at the top half of the table throughout the tournament. Players like KL Rahul, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Andrew Tye have been the best players for the franchise.
Batting carnage
After the initial stages of the tournament, KXIP were not quite able to carry on the winning momentum. A few losses have dented their confidence which was at the peak in the initial stages of the tournament. On Saturday, KXIP faced the Kolkata Knight Riders and it was a match to forget for the bowlers. KXIP leaked 245 runs and the match was probably over after the first innings itself. Andrew Tye, the purple cap holder felt that his side conceded 20-30 runs extra that cost them the match.
The Kings XI Punjab scored 214 runs and lost the game by 31 runs. The margin of defeat may not tell the true story but it was a dominating performance by KKR. Bowling was difficult on the wicket and the hot weather added further misery to the bowlers. The small boundaries helped the batsmen to get away with bad shots and it was absolutely a batting carnage at the Holkar stadium.
The Aussie bowler has to take his wickets tally to 20 and is quite some distance away from the other bowlers. Andrew Tye said that KL Rahul played a brilliant knock and if someone had supported him on the other end, things may have been different. Tye was the pick of the bowlers for KXIP as he picked up 4 wickets in his four overs.
The alarm bells for KXIP are ringing and they must soon bounce back from this defeat to pull up a couple of victories and seal a playoff spot.
