Among the various players who will go under the hammer in the IPL auction that will take place on 18th February 2021, one name to watch out for is Kyle Jamieson. The New Zealand pacer has already proved to be an asset in Test match cricket, and given his height and ability to get the ball to move, Jamieson will be a handy pick for several IPL teams.

And, ahead of the 2021 IPL edition, he will be up for grabs. Former Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR) skipper Gautam Gambhir is of the opinion that Jamieson can turn out to be a superstar in the future, and added that the upcoming auction is the right time for several franchises to get hold of the pacer.

Gambhir also added that Jamieson is a guy who can be used for a longer period of time. The former Indian opener also opined that Jamieson is extremely tall, can regularly bowl around 140 kmph and can also hit the ball a fair distance with the willow. And, Gambhir even feels that Jamieson could become the next Andre Russell.

“Kyle Jamieson is not a big name at the moment, but he will turn out to be a superstar. This is probably the right auction for all franchises to get a hold of him. And because he is someone whom you can keep for a longer period of time. He is seven feet, he is that tall. He can bowl 140 and can hit the ball long. He probably could be the next Andre Russell in the making,” said Gambhir in a chat with Star Sports.

“You can have the core team around Jamieson,” says Gambhir

Gambhir also added that Jamieson is not a finished product. However, the former Indian batsman opined that the Kiwi cricketer is young and the franchises can build their core team around Jamieson. Gambhir also felt that the two franchises for whom Jamieson would be very handy are Kings XI Punjab and Sunrisers Hyderabad. He added that Jamieson can bat at No.6 or No.7 and hit the ball a fair distance, both against the spinners as well as the pacers. Gambhir concluded by stating that the New Zealand player is a great asset and will get better in the future.

“Yes, he’s not a finished product and everyone knows about it, but is someone who is probably young and you can have that core built around him. A franchise like Kings XI (Punjab Kings) who are looking for that all-rounder or some other franchise, they can think of someone like Jamieson. Even Sunrisers, because he is someone who can bowl with the new ball, and can bat at No. 6 and 7 and can hit the long ball against spin and fast bowling. He’s a great asset and he’s going to get better from here,” concluded Gambhir.
