Virat Kohli’s form has been the most talked about thing in the world of cricket for quite a few months now. The former India skipper has not managed to hit a century since November 2019 and has been going through a rough patch for a couple of years now. But amid all the negatives, Indian all-format skipper Rohit Sharma backed him yet again and said that the stylish batter needs just a few good knocks to bounce back into form.

Virat Kohli has been in and out of the international setup for different reasons in recent times. Post the conclusion of the IPL 2022, he missed the T20I series against South Africa, and as for Ireland, a separate team was curated. Starting with the England tour, Kohli managed to score just 11 and 20 runs in the two innings respectively.

He was rested for the first T20I but could score just 12 runs in the remaining two T20Is combined (1 and 11). He returned for the second ODI after missing the first game due to a groin injury, but could only manage to score 16 runs off 25 deliveries, which included three fours. Thus, his form has been a matter of major concern, and when a reporter asked a related question to Rohit Sharma in a post-match press conference, Sharma was irked by the same old repeated question.

The reporter started by saying, “Virat Kohli ke baare me sabse zyada charcha ho rahi hai….” (Virat Kohli is the most talked about person right now) when Rohit Sharma cut him in the middle of his question and immediately said, “Kyun ho rahi hai, yaar. Matlab mujhe samajh mein nahin aata, bhai.” (Why is this discussion happening. I can’t understand this).

It is a part and parcel of the game for every cricketer: Sharma

Rohit Sharma then let the reporter complete his question as he asked the skipper how it feels when he sees such a successful player like Kohli unable to score runs for such a long time. Rohit Sharma replied, “He has played so many matches and has been playing the game since so many years. He’s such a good batsman that he does not need reassurance. I had mentioned this previously too that form keeps flickering. It is a part and parcel of the game for every cricketer. Everyone faces a similar time during their careers.

“So for players who have played so many years, played so many matches, and scored numerous runs, they just need one or two innings to get back to form, that’s what I think. We know that this topic (Kohli’s form) is being discussed outside, but we need to understand that every players’ performance witnesses ups and downs, but the quality of the player remains the same. There’s no player who has been consistent in every match that he’s played. Everyone faces a slump,” Sharma further responded to the reporter.
