Lancashire announced the signing of Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar for the ongoing season of English County cricket. Sundar was out of action for some time due to an injury related to webbing in his hand and is now set to come back to the field after going through rehab at National Cricket Academy (NCA).

Lancashire stated that the Indian all-rounder will be available for the entirety of the One-Day Cup competition. Lancashire currently stand third on the County Championship division one points table.

“Washington, who is currently following a period of rehabilitation with the BCCI after a recent injury, will be available for the whole Royal London One-Day Cup competition, and fitness depending, a number of LV=County Championship games in July,” stated Lancashire, according to Cricbuzz.

I can’t wait to play at Old Trafford: Washington Sundar

Sundar said that he is excited to play county cricket for the first time, adding that he cannot wait to play at Emirates Old Trafford.

“I am extremely excited to play county cricket for the first time with Lancashire Cricket. To play in English conditions will be a great experience for me and I can’t wait to play at Emirates Old Trafford,” Sundar was quoted as saying by the club. “I would like to thank both Lancashire Cricket and the BCCI for allowing this opportunity to happen and I’m looking forward to joining up with the squad next month.”

Sundar has played four Test matches, four ODIs and 31 T20Is for India since making his international debut in December 2017. He last played for India in February in an ODI against West Indies in Ahmedabad. Predominantly an off-spinner who can bat down the order, Sundar has picked up 36 wickets across all three formats and scored 369 runs with the bat.

Sundar has played some valuable innings in Tests, including his unbeaten knock of 96 against England in Ahmedabad and 62 against Australia in the famous Gabba Test from 2021. He is expected to deliver with his all-round performance in England and take his club higher on the table.
