Lance Klusener feels AB de Villiers has a lot of cricket left in him

Former Proteas cricketer, Lance Klusener has expressed his confidence in the abilities of AB de Villiers. Although there has been much speculation about de Villiers not getting too many runs of late and wanting to retire from tests, Klusener opines that the flamboyant batsman still has a lot of cricket left in him.

In a recent interview with the Times Of India (TOI), Klusener, who is currently busy coaching the Lyca Kovai Kings in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), put forth his opinion on the future of AB de Villiers.

Mr 360°, AB de Villiers is regarded as the perpetual cricketing heartthrob by many. The 33-year-old batsman is famed for his ability to hit shots all around the park, no matter which bowler he’s faced with. He possesses remarkable figures of 8074 runs in 106 Test matches and 9319 runs in 222 One-Day Internationals(ODIs), with an average over 50 in both formats.

It is no secret that AB de Villiers has been a pillar of strength for the entire Proteas batting line-up for a considerable period of time. Furthermore, his dazzling performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for his franchise, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the past are enough proof of the cricketing abilities that de Villiers still possesses.

Echoing the same sentiment, Klusener said, “I feel de Villiers still has a lot of cricket left in him. He’s right up there with the best in the world. All players go through lean patches no matter how good they are. You have to remember that he is not playing much Test cricket now. So, the volume of cricket he’s playing is not as much as it used to be. Sometimes, that can lead to you taking your eye off the ball in terms of preparation and that is the adjustment he needs to make.”
