The recent controversy over the cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul on their choice of words on the popular TV show ‘Koffee With Karan’ has led to a huge uproar in India’s cricketing and social circles. The two, particularly Pandya, was roasted over objectionable viewpoints on women and other things and there is a sharp difference of opinion now in the administrative ranks over dealing with them.

The duo has been handed a suspension pending inquiry and prolonged chaos could mean that their prospects of appearing in the World Cup could be in jeopardy. The two featured in India’s squads for the limited-overs series in Australia and New Zealand but now have been replaced by other players.

Pandya, Rahul apologize again

The tainted duo gave an unconditional apology to the BCCI on Monday in response to the second show cause notice that was served to them. The board has been asked to submit the findings in the matter in a fortnight’s time. Meanwhile, former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar backed the two young cricketers urging the BCCI not to hand out heavy punishments to them.

In a tweet, he asked all to be “mature” even if the two cricketers are “immature”. The 53-year-old sympathised with them on his official Twitter handle.

Rahul and Hardik Pandya were served show cause notices earlier as well but the latter’s response to that did not seem convincing to the board officials. Pandya tendered an apology on that occasion too and said he got carried away by the “nature of the programme” which is anchored by filmmaker Karan Johar.

However, as time unfolded, sharp differences began to surface in the BCCI and the Committee of Administrators that runs it over the nature of punishment the two cricketers should be handed. Rahul, however, found more support among the fans who felt he was being unjustly treated for what Pandya said.

“Yes, Hardik and Rahul have submitted their reply to the fresh show cause notices that were served to them. They have tendered an unconditional apology. The CoA chief has instructed the CEO to conduct an inquiry as per clause 41 (c) of the new BCCI constitution,” a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying by Times Now.
