The 2019-20 season has been all about KL Rahul and his batting in limited-overs cricket for India as he stepped into any role for the team requirement with ease. As India stood on the verge of a rare occasion of getting whitewashed in ODIs, the keeper-batsman smashed his maiden ODI century in New Zealand.

Rahul walked in at 62/3 and shared century partnerships with Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandey for the 4th and 5th wickets. Rahul scored 112 from 113 balls with nine fours and a couple of sixes.

All the stats and records that Rahul created with his 112-run knock in Mount Maunganui:

2 – KL Rahul’s century in this match is only the 2nd ODI century by an Indian wicketkeeper outside Asia. Rahul Dravid scored 145 against Sri Lanka in the 1999 CWC match in Taunton. It was indecently the first-ever ODI hundred by an Indian keeper-batsman.

Rahul’s hundred is also only the 2nd by ODI hundred by an Indian keeper against the home team. MS Dhoni scored an unbeaten 101 against Bangladesh in Dhaka during the 2010 ODI Tri-series.

3 – Rahul now has joined an elite list of Indian players to have scored an ODI ton while playing as designated keeper – Rahul Dravid (4) and MS Dhoni (9). The last ODI ton by an Indian keeper came in 2007 Cuttack ODI where MS Dhoni scored 134 against England.

4 – KL Rahul’s four ODI centuries came in four different countries – Zimbabwe, England, India and New Zealand. He is only the 2nd Indian to score each of his first four ODI hundreds in different nations. Yuvraj Singh’s first six ODI centuries came in different countries – BAN, AUS, SL, ZIM, IND and PAK.

Interestingly, all the five centuries by Rahul in Test cricket came in five different countries. Ajinkya Rahane is the only other Indian to have scored his first 5 Test 100s in different nations.

5 – Rahul is only the 5th wicketkeeper to score an ODI hundred against New Zealand in New Zealand. Adam Gilchrist (118 in 1998 and 128 in 2000), Brad Haddin (110 in 2010), AB de Villiers (106* in 2012) and Kumar Sangakkara (113* in 2015) are the other four visiting keeper-batsmen with ODI hundreds against New Zealand. Only De Villiers and Rahul batted as low as No.5 among the five players.

112 – The 112-run knock by Rahul is now the highest ODI score by an Indian on New Zealand soil batting while outside top 3. Suresh Raina scored an unbeaten 103 against Zimbabwe in the 2015 CWC at the Eden Park while batting at No.5. During the first ODI of this series, Shreyas Iyer scored 103 while batting at No.4.

112 – KL Rahul’s 112 is the 3rd highest ODI score away from home for India while batting at No.5. Yuvraj Singh scored 139 against Australia in the 2004 SCG ODI which is also the highest ODI score for India at No.5 position. Yuvraj also scored 120 at this position against Zimbabwe in Harare during the 2005 Tri-series.

112 – Rahul’s 112-run knock is now the 2nd highest score by a No.5 batsman for India since 2010. MS Dhoni scored 134 against England in 2017 Cuttack ODI which was also the only other ODI century by a No.5 batter for India post the 2015 CWC.

204 – Rahul is only the 2nd Indian to score 200+ runs while batting at No.5 in a bilateral ODI series outside Asia. Rohit Sharma scored 257 runs while batting at No.5 during the 2011 5-match ODI series against West Indies in West Indies.
