In his first match after becoming a full-time ODI captain, Quinton de Kock smashed a brilliant century to see South Africa through to a 1-0 lead in the 3-match ODI series against England. During the 259-run chase, South Africa lost the wicket of Reeza Hendricks early but De Kock held the innings along with Temba Bavuma. The duo added 173 for the 2nd wicket in only 28.1 overs to bring the required rate below four. De Kock was cleaned up by Joe Root after scoring 107 from 113 balls with 11 fours and a maximum.

All the stats and records that Quinton de Kock achieved with his maiden International century as captain:

2 – Quinton de Kock is now only the 2nd keeper-captain to score an ODI century while opening the batting. Adam Gilchrist scored 116 in the 2006 Perth ODI against Sri Lanka when he led Australia in the absence of Ricky Ponting. Across Tests and T20Is, only one keeper-captain scored hundred while opening – 115 by Percy Sherwell for South Africa in the 1907 Lord’s Test against England.

2 – De Kock is only the 2nd keeper-captain to score an ODI hundred for South Africa after AB de Villiers who has four such tons. Overall, seven players have scored centuries while playing as a keeper-captain in ODI cricket till date.

Quinton is the 2nd youngest player in this list as he was 27 years and 49 days old on Tuesday. The youngest player is MS Dhoni who was 26 years and 354 days old when he scored his maiden ODI hundred as a keeper-captain of 109* against Hong Kong in the 2008 Asia Cup.

3 – Number of centuries in ODI format for De Kock against England; the joint-most number of hundreds for any player in the South Africa-England ODIs. Kevin Pietersen and Graeme Smith also have three tons in the ODI matches between the two teams.

6 – Quinton de Kock became the first South African skipper to score a century in his maiden home ODI. Overall, he is only the 6th player to score a hundred in the maiden home ODI as a captain. The other five players are as follows: Brian Lara (110), Sanath Jayasuriya (102), Marcus Trescothick (114*), Gavin Hamilton (119) and Steve Smith (102*).

10 – De Kock scored ten of his 15 ODI centuries in South Africa. He is now only the 3rd player after Hashim Amla (14) and Herschelle Gibbs (10) to score 10+ ODI tons in South Africa. De Kock was tied on with AB de Villiers (9) in this list before the match.

116 – Innings Quinton needed to reach 5000 runs in the ODI format. He is now the joint 5th fastest to 5000 ODI runs and the 2nd quickest South African to do so. Hashim Amla needed only 101 innings for reaching 5000 ODI runs and is also the fastest player ever to get there.

5011 – De Kock is also only the 6th wicketkeeper to complete 5000 runs in the ODI format. He is now the fastest player to this milestone having needed 115 innings and thus broke the record held by MS Dhoni in 135 innings. (Only time De Kock did not play as a keeper in his ODI career – 3 runs vs Pakistan in 2013 Benoni ODI)
