With Sri Lanka at 222-4 in the second innings of the first Test match, Dickwella attempted to play a reverse sweep only to find a Spiderman-like reflex from Bangladesh keeper Liton Das. The keeper pulled off a truly freakish catch to send Dickwella back to the pavilion.
The cheeky keeper, moved smartly to his left in anticipation to take a brilliant reflex catch as Dickwella guided the ball straight into his gloves.
“That’ll be one of the catches of the year” Dean Jones exclaimed shockingly in the commentary box. Despite Das’ heroic attempt, Bangladesh failed to narrow down the Lankan’s second innings lead which meant that they had to chase a mammoth score of 457 to win the first Test.
Meanwhile, on the other hand, Rangana Herath grabbed six wickets in the second innings to go past Daniel Vettori to become the most successful left-arm spinner as Sri Lanka crushed Bangladesh by 259 runs.
Herath finished with figures 6-59, his 29th five or more wicket haul, which took his tally in Tests to 366 wickets, going past New Zealand’s Daniel Vettori, who had the previous record with 362 wickets to his name.
The left arm spinner’s exploits helped Sri Lanka dismiss Bangladesh for 197 runs in the second innings in less than two sessions on the fifth day after the visitors resumed play promisingly on 67-0.
Das’s Spiderman efforts is a front-runner for the title of the catch of the year, with others being Saha’s one-handed effort and Steve Smith’s acrobatic effort at first slip.
The second Test between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will be played at P Sara Oval, Colombo from 15th of March.
