Preview

Afghanistan will be up against Pakistan in the first ODI match of the Afghanistan Tour of Sri Lanka at the Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota on August 22. Afghanistan have not been in too great of a form recently and have won just two of their last five matches. Pakistan, on the other hand, have been fantastic, winning four of their five matches.

Afghanistan had squared off against Bangladesh in their last match, where Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bat. It was a match Afghanistan would like to forget quickly due to their batting collapse. Azmatullah Omarzai was the lone batter to score some decent runs, and the team bundled out for just 126. Bangladesh lost a wicket early but obviously did not have any major problems chasing down the total and won the match comfortably by seven wickets with more than 26 overs to spare.

Pakistan had played against New Zealand in their last encounter, where New Zealand won the toss, and they elected to bat. After a decent opening stand, New Zealand had a couple of fantastic partnerships, especially from their middle-order batters, which propelled the team to a total of 299 runs. Pakistan, however, lacked partnerships top of the order. Agha Salman and Iftikhar Ahmed played some decent knocks but could not take their team over. New Zealand won the match by 47 runs.
