Preview

Australia will be up against Sri Lanka in the 14th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on October 16. Australia just have not been Australia in the World Cup so far, losing both their matches and languishing in the second-last position. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, have not been too different, with two losses as well. They are seventh in the rankings.

Australia played against South Africa in their last match, where Australia won the toss and elected to bowl. South Africa were off to a rollicking start as they gathered 108 runs for their opening stand. The run-fest did not stop after that as well and kept piling for every wicket. With the help of a brilliant century from Quinton de Kock, they reached a good total of 311 runs. Australia did not start the chase well and just kept losing wickets one after the other. They lacked partnerships to be built, which would take them forward, so they lost the match by a huge margin of 134 runs.

Sri Lanka squared off against Pakistan in their last match, where Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat. They lost an early wicket but had two-century stands for the second and third wickets, respectively, which brought them back in the game and put them ahead in the driver’s seat. They set a huge target of 345 in reply of which, Pakistan lost two wickets early and looked in trouble when the pair of Shafique and Rizwan added 176 runs. Fantastic finishing touches meant Pakistan chased a record total and won the match by six wickets.
