South Group’s Gloucestershire will be facing Sussex in the 100th match of the Vitality Blast 2023 at the Seat Unique Stadium in Bristol on June 22. Both the teams have played ten games each, of which Gloucestershire have won four matches, while Sussex have won three. They currently stand in the seventh and eighth ranks in the points table.  Gloucestershire seems to be having the upper hand in this battle.

Gloucestershire last fought with Hampshire, where Gloucestershire won the toss and elected to field. The bowlers did their part well, with Tom Smith leading the wickets count of 4 wickets and David Payne, Zafar Gohar, and Gareme Burren getting one wicket each. They ended the first innings with a score of 158 runs for the loss of seven wickets. The second innings got interrupted due to rain, and the match had to be shortened. After the D/L rule, the new target was to make 84 runs in nine overs. The opening pair didn’t work, but the solid partnership between Ben Wells (43) and Ben Charlesworth (29) made Gloucestershire win.

Sussex had their last encounter against Kent, where Sussex won the toss and elected to bat. Leading from the front, captain Ravi Bopara hit a half-century, followed by 32 and 22 runs by Harrison Ward and Tom Clark, respectively, with several other smaller yet important contributions by the other batters. They scored a decent total of 169 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Jordan Kox’s 82 runs, with Daniel Drummond’s 38 runs and Jack Leaning’s 28 runs, paved the way for Kent to win very easily. With the fall of just four wickets, Kent successfully completed the chase and won the match by six wickets with eight balls remaining. The bowlers of Sussex failed to perform according to the conditions.
