Preview

Lahore Qalandars (LAH) will face Islamabad United (ISL) in the first match of the Pakistan Super League 2024 on Saturday, February 17, at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Both teams have faced each other in 17 matches so far in PSL. The Qalandars have won eight matches, while the United have been victorious on nine occasions.

The Qalandars finished in first place last season with seven wins in 10 matches. They defeated Multan Sultans in the final by a mere margin of one run and became the first-ever team to win the PSL back-to-back seasons. Shaheen Shah Afridi will be back as the skipper of the side. They have brought in overseas players like Dan Lawrence, Rassie van der Dussen and Bhanuka Rajapaksa in the squad for this season. Lawrence is currently a part of England’s squad for the Test series against India and will join the team after it is completed. He was picked by the Qalandars to replace Harry Brook who pulled out of the tournament due to personal reasons.

The United had won six out of 10 matches last season and finished in third place. They lost the first eliminator game last season against Peshawar Zalmi which marked their exit from the tournament. Shadab Khan will again lead the side this year. The United made a couple of changes to the squad for this season. Naseem Shah who played for Quetta Gladiators last season, has been brought in. He will link up with his brothers Ubaid and Hunain. Ubaid had a great outing in the Under-19 World Cup recently. Imad Wasim has joined the United after leaving Karachi Kings.
