Preview

Leicestershire will lock horns with Derbyshire in the 31st match of the Vitality Blast 2023 at Grace Road in Leicester on June 1. Leicestershire have played three matches where they are yet to win any and are languishing at the bottom of the table in North Group. Derbyshire, on the other hand, have a similar record and are placed just one position above their rivals in the standings of North Group.

Leicestershire played against Worcestershire in their last match, where Worcestershire won the toss and they chose to bat. Worcestershire did not start well at all, losing three wickets just for the score of 30. Some strong partnerships for the fourth and fifth wicket brought them back into the game, where Kashif Ali was the star performer with the bat, and Usama Mir finished the game brilliantly. They posted a strong total of 183 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Leicestershire, in return, started decently and was made better by a good second-wicket partnership. However, no other batters could last after that, so the team could only muster 150 runs. Hence, Worcestershire won the match by 33 runs.

Derbyshire squared off against Northamptonshire in their last encounter, where Northamptonshire won the toss and elected to field. Derbyshire started rather slowly, further worsened by a heap of wickets in the first powerplay. They had lost four wickets by the time they scored 49 runs but were saved by a brilliant fifth-wicket partnership. This helped them post a decent total of 151 runs on the board. Northamptonshire lost a wicket early but didn’t put a foot wrong after that. They easily chased down the total with 12 balls to spare and won the match by six wickets.
