Preview

Nottinghamshire and Worcestershire will compete in match 40 of the Vitality Blast 2023. Nottinghamshire contested four games, all of them involved chasing. They were excellent at doing so in two of the contests but not in the remaining two. They are now positioned in the middle of the points chart. Worcestershire, on the other side, have an unbeaten record this season and have won all three games. They now hold the top spot in the points table.

Nottinghamshire had played against Yorkshire in their last match, where Yorkshire won the toss and they chose to bat. The bowlers from Nottinghamshire gave away too many runs, except for Shaheen Shah Afridi. However, Jack Brooks picked up four wickets at a cost of 51 runs in four overs. In total, Nottinghamshire picked up 7 wickets, with a target of 182 to chase. While chasing the target, despite Colin Munro scoring 46 off 41 and Alex Hales scoring a half-century for the second straight night, Nottinghamshire required 53 runs in the last 5 overs when Matthew Montgomery failed after a quick knock of 28 runs off 19 deliveries, which resulted in a loss for Nottinghamshire. The margin of the loss was too small; therefore, Nottinghamshire will definitely bounce back in this game. The biggest advantage for Nottinghamshire is that they routinely scored 170 or more runs while chasing in their last four games despite losing just an average of 5 to 6 wickets per game.

Worcestershire squared off against Leicestershire in their last encounter, where Worcestershire won the toss and elected to bat. Choosing to bat first, they lost three quick wickets for 30 runs. Then their middle-order partnerships with AJ Hose and Kashif Ali added 45 off 32, and another partnership between Kashif Ali and Ben Cox took them to a decent position. In the end, Usama Mir's 32 off 15 helped them post a target of 183 runs. While defending this target, Worcestershire picked up only one wicket by the end of the 9th over, and the chasing team looked so comfortable. But captain D'Oliveira brought himself into the attack and made a double breakthrough in the space of four balls. Brett D'Oliveira, Michael Bracewell, and Usama Mir all picked up two wickets each, and the pressure was back on the chasing team. Finally, Pat Brown wrapped up the tail, and Worcestershire won it by 33 runs.
