Preview

New Zealand (NZ) will be hosting Sri Lanka (SL) in the first ODI match at Auckland's Eden Park on Saturday, March 25. The hosts wrapped up a 2-0 series win in Test against Sri Lanka and enter the three-match ODI series as clear favourites. A majority of the key players will miss this series, including skipper Kane Williamson, due to the upcoming Indian Premier League 2023. Tom Latham will lead the team, with Ben Lister and Chad Bowes in contention for ODI debut.

After losing Tests, Sri Lanka needs to win all three ODIs against New Zealand to secure direct qualification to the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. They lost against India 3-0 in their latest ODIs after drawing against Afghanistan at home. Dasun Shanaka will be leading the team, with Angelo Matthews returning to the ODI setup after a gap of two years. Lasith Croospulle and Sahan Arachchige are named in the team for the first while young pacer Matheesha Pathirana is in line for his ODI debut.
