Preview

Afghanistan will be up against Sri Lanka in the 6th match of the Asia Cup 2023 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on September 5. Afghanistan lost their opening game and are at the bottom of the rankings in Group B. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, won their first game against Bangladesh and are at the top of the table in Group B.

Afghanistan played their last game against Bangladesh, where Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat. Making the most out of a batting track, Bangladesh started on a high and kept going above and beyond. Mehidy and Shanto both brought up their centuries, respectively. A brilliant finish towards the end meant every box was ticked in the first innings, and they put up a massive total of 334 runs. In reply, Afghanistan were a little slow from the start despite having a couple of good partnerships. In the latter half of the innings, they kept losing wickets and were bowled out for 245, losing the match by 89 runs.

Sri Lanka had squared off against Bangladesh in their last match, where Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat. It was not a good decision as they did not start as they would have hoped for. Najmul Hossain Shanto did play a fine knock at one end, but he did not get enough support from the other end, and as a result, they were bowled out at a mere total of 164. In the chase, Sri Lanka also lost early wickets and looked in trouble, but the fifties from Samarawickrama and Asalanka put them back on track, and they won the match by five wickets.
