Preview

On June 9, Sussex and Surrey will square off at the County Ground in Hove in the 70th game of the Vitality Blast 2023. Surrey are having a successful tournament and have won five out of seven games. They are placed in second place in the points table. Sussex, on the other hand, have won just two of their seven games. Interestingly, their first win came against Sussex, and they are currently in seventh place.

Sussex's last encounter was a close contest against Middlesex that went to the last over. Sussex batted first and lost two quick wickets. However, Ravi Bopara's 38 off 26 and the Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan's 59 off 30 balls helped to put a defendable target on the board. The visitors didn't have a great start with the ball. At one stage, Middlesex were on 91 for 2 and kept wickets in hand for the final overs. Tymal Mills secured the victory in the final over, but Nathan McAndrew saved two wickets before heading to the final overs.

Surrey squared off against Glamorgan in their last match and batted first. Top-order contributions play a vital role in their success. Similarly, a record-breaking batting performance from Laurie Evans (118 off 60) led to a record total of 236. Will Jack's 46 and Sam Curran's 66 added fuel to the fire. All five bowlers contributed at regular intervals to avoid building partnerships. Atkinson and C. Jordan were the standout performers, picking two wickets apiece with excellent control. Therefore, Surrey won comfortably.
