Preview

India will be up against West Indies in the 1st T20I match of the India Tour of West Indies at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad on August 3. Both teams look to be in decent form in this format recently, with both teams winning three of their last five matches. India would still be starting the tournament as favourites.

India squared off against New Zealand in their last encounter, where India won the toss and elected to bat. Though India lost the wicket of Ishan Kishan early, Shubhman Gill looked in a completely different mood and smashed every bowler who came his way. He was supported brilliantly by other players, and owing to his unbeaten century, India posted a mammoth total of 234 runs. New Zealand, in reply, were completely shattered by such a huge target in front of them and fumbled their way. They were bowled out for a mere total of 66, and India won the match by a huge margin of 168 runs.

West Indies had played against South Africa in their last match, where South Africa elected to field after winning the toss. Being put to bat, West Indies made a strong start and were moving ahead in the match at a rapid pace. Nicholas Pooran and Romario Shepherd’s quickfire innings meant West Indies posted a huge total of 220 runs on the board. The way South Africa started their run chase, it felt like it was going to be an easy task for them with their entire batting unit steaming up. However, West Indies took some wickets at crucial times and gripped the match at the very last moment, and won the match by seven runs.
