Steve Smith, the prolific batsman has evolved into a run-machine for Australia in international cricket. He has been playing in top-notch form across all the formats. The 30-year-old was collecting bucketloads of runs on the back of his unorthodox batting style before the COVID-19 outbreak. Moreover, the bowlers were finding it difficult to take the wicket of the former Aussie skipper. However, Shoaib Akhtar, the former pacer has come out and said that at the age of 44, he can still dismiss Smith quite easily with a perfect plan.
The Rawalpindi Express is rated as one of the fastest bowlers in the history of international cricket. He was a lethal pacer, who was known for bowling threatening bouncers and toe-crushing yorkers. He also holds the record for bowling fastest delivery in international cricket, i.e- 161.3 km/hr.
Shoaib Akhtar comes out with a response in his own style
There is no doubt over the fact that Akhtar is one of the finest fast bowlers produced by Pakistan. However, this all doesn’t mean that Steve Smith is an easy fish to catch. After finishing a year ban, the 30-year-old performed exceedingly well in the 2019 World Cup followed by his mind-wobbling performances in the Ashes. He turned out to be a nightmare for the bowlers in ODIs as well as in Test cricket since his return.
On Monday, ESPNcricinfo took to their official Twitter handle and shared a post in which they formed a few contests of bowler and batsman including 20 great players. Moreover, they asked the fans which contest they will like to watch if given an opportunity. The post read, “Imagine these 20 players at their prime. You can only pick one contest to watch.”
As soon as the 44-year-old came across this post, he came out with a quick response and said that he can still dismiss Steve Smith on the fourth delivery of his over. Shoaib Akhtar took to his official Twitter handle and quoted the tweet, “Even today, 3 hurting bouncers and i can dismiss @stevesmith49 on the 4th ball. Lol.”
Earlier, the former Pakistan pacer raised questions on Smith’s batting technique. Also, Akhtar added that he would have definitely tried to hurt him if the right-handed batsman was playing in his time.
