Sunil Gavaskar on Tuesday joined the list of legendary cricketers whose name will embellish a cricket ground in Louisville, Kentucky USA. It is known as the hometown of the celebrated professional boxer and sports icon, Mohammad Ali. Though the officials are yet to make a final announcement, the club captain Jai Bokey believes that it will take less than two weeks to make it official.

The Louisville have also organized an evening with legendary Indian cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar at Mohammad Ali Centre on 15 October, Sunday. The night seems to open for all aficionados as they look to meet the little master, Gavaskar. The attendees will have to pay $300 each, with no additional cost for spouse and guest, for entertainment and dinner.

Jai Bokey said, “the city authorities will make the official announcement soon and that the naming of the ground will happen in two weeks.” This news will not only bring joy to Indian fans but will also ignite hope for American cricket. Also, gestures like these will help India-USA relation in the long run, both on the cricketing grounds and politically as well.

Little Master’s long journey

Though in past, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named stands after him, it will be for the first time when the whole stadium will be named after an iconic personality like Gavaskar. He was also honoured when The India-Australia Test series was named after Sunil Gavaskar and Allan Border and is called the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

In his cricketing days, he let the bat do all talking, finishing his career with some remarkable numbers. One of India’s greatest Test openers was the first man to reach 10,000 runs mark in Test, with 34 hundreds. He offered his services to the nation for a period of 13 years and is still an active commentator in almost all Indian matches.
