LPL 2020: Match 8, JAF vs KAN – Thisara Perera's all-round show, A record partnership for the Stallions and more stats

Jaffna Stallions registered their 3rd straight win of the LPL 2020 as they got the better of the Kandy Tuskers with a huge 54-run margin. Thisara Perera smashed 68 from only 28 balls with five fours and four sixes after walking to back at 49/4 in the 10th over. He put on a 118-run stand in only 7.5 overs with Dhananjaya de Silva (61 off 38) as Stallions finished with 185/8. Kandy Tuskers tried to stay ahead of the required run rate but ended up getting bowled out for only 131 with another 2.5 overs still to be played.

Perera’s all-round performance:

2 – Thisara Perera’s 68 are the 2nd most number of runs scored by any player during a match in the Twenty20 cricket where they claimed two or more wickets and also took three or more catches. Priyank Panchal scored 77 during the 2014 Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 game against Saurashtra alongside a 4-wicket haul and four catches.

202 – Thisara Perera completed 200 sixes in the Twenty20 format with the 3rd of the five sixes he struck during JAF vs KAN game. He is now the first player from Sri Lanka to hit as many as 200 sixes in the Twenty20 format.

Thisara’s streak as captain:

4 – Thisara Perera now has scored a fifty in each of his last four innings in Twenty20 format as captain. Before the 68-run knock during JAF vs KAN game, Thisara had scores of 97*, 57 and 58 in his previous three T20 innings as captain.

A big stand between Thisara and Dhananjaya:

118 – The partnership of 118 for the 5th wicket between Dhananjaya de Silva and Thisara Perera is the now 2nd highest for the 5th wicket in Twenty20 cricket on Sri Lankan soil. The highest is 126 between R Kodituwakku and K Karunanayake for Tamil Union against SLPACC in 2018 domestic T20 tournament.

Munaf awaits his first T20 run in seven years:

2013 – Munaf Patel last scored a run in the Twenty20 format back in March 2013 during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He has batted four times since then and couldn’t score a run in any of them. Overall, Munaf Patel has batted on 21 instances in the T20 format and got off the mark in only nine of them.

Milestones for Sri Lankan players:

50 – Nuwan Pradeep completed 50 wickets in the Twenty20 format by dismissing Wanidu Hasaranga during Jaffna’s innings. Later, Hasaranga also completed 50 wickets in T20 cricket with the wicket of Seekkuge Prasanna, his first of the two wickets during Kandy’s innings.

1018 – Asela Gunaratne completed 1000 runs in the Twenty20 format when he went past his individual score 13. Gunaratne needed 56 matches to reach the milestone where he also picked a total of 34 wickets.
