Both Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are ready to lock horns in this year’s Eliminator on 25 May 2022 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. LSG has surprised everyone by putting up a good show throughout the IPL and hence, they have qualified for the playoffs in their maiden appearance. On the other hand, RCB has qualified for the fourth spot by winning crucial games at crucial moments.

In Kolkata, there is a possibility of rain during the match hours and that can be troublesome to both players and fans. The match is scheduled to get started at 7.30 pm IST. As per AccuWeather, there are 16% chances of rain at 6.00 pm before the match kicks off. Otherwise, there is no such rain prediction during the match hours (7pm to 11 pm). Still, if a sudden shower comes and plays a spoilsport, then what will happen? That is the question.

LSG will qualify for the Qualifier 2 if no play happens due to rain

Kolkata’s Eden Gardens is known for its good-quality drainage system. So, if it rains heavily, still there might be a chance of having a game of reduced overs. As per the IPL Guidelines: “The number of overs in the playoff match may, if necessary, be reduced so that each side has the opportunity to bat for five overs. For the Eliminator and each Qualifier playoff matches, if it is not possible to schedule a five-over match to complete by the end of the extra time on an original day, the teams will, if conditions permit, play a Super Over to determine the winner of the relevant Eliminator or Qualifier match.”

“If the Super Over is not possible the team that finished highest in the league table after the 70 matches of the regular season shall be declared the winner of the relevant play-off match or final.” Going by this rule, LSG will book their place in the Qualifier 2 if there is no chance of play as they have finished above RCB by the end of those 14 league matches.
