Team India possesses one of the best bowling attacks in the world at the moment. With the quartet of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav going all guns blazing, the future seems to be in good hands for the team in the near future. Even Bhuvneshwar Kumar was also in the frame before being ruled out due to injury.

Former India cricketer has credited the India skipper Virat Kohli for building such a strong pace bowling attack. He lauded Kohli for backing the fast bowlers stating that no other captain has encouraged them this way before. India won the Test series for the first time in Australia during their 2018-19 tour and it was only possible due to the pace attack the visitors had up their sleeve.

Madan Lal also pointed out that Kohli understands the importance of having gun bowlers in the side to win matches. The way Virat Kohli encouraged the pacers, no other captain has done it. I can bet on this. When you have a good pace attack. Going back 15-20 years, India did not win these many matches. Now you’re winning it because of the pace attack.

“Kohli knows that if his pace attack is good, he has more chances of helping the team win,” he said while speaking to sports analyst Joy Bhattacharjya for Sony Ten Pit Stop.

Kohli is on the right track with the pacers, feels Madan Lal

Madan Lal also recalled the times when Sunil Gavaskar used to back the pace bowlers during his time at the helm and stated it was the latter to brought the culture in the Indian cricket. He also predicted that the current lot of four to five fast bowlers will win a lot of matches for India in the future.

“I think this culture of encouraging pace bowlers was started by Sunil Gavaskar. The way Virat Kohli is doing it is unbelievable. He is on the right track with the pacers. You’ve got 4 or 5 bowlers who are going to win us a lot of matches in the near future,” the 69-year-old added.

He also felt that people are unnecessarily criticising Virat Kohli for his aggressive approach and also termed the current team India as the best ever. “It’s very difficult to compare (1985 team and Kohli’s team). This team, I think, is one of the best teams ever. Sourav [Ganguly], MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli now. Virat Kohli has changed the concept of the game. He cultivated the fitness culture and belief in your own ability.

“I like his aggression. A lot of people criticise him but I don’t want to. We needed this. We used to say that Indians were not that aggressive. Now a player, who is our captain, has come with aggression, he should be appreciated,” Madan Lal further said.
