Mahela Jayawardene is one of the legends of Sri Lankan cricket. He flourished in all the three formats and hardly allowed the bowlers to get under his skins. The right-hander represented his nation in over 600 matches in which he notched over 25,000 runs to go with 54 centuries and 136 half-centuries. He last donned the national colors in the 2015 edition of the World Cup.

Jayawardene also racked up a century in the 2011 World Cup final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, though it came in a losing cause. He was stalwart in the batting lineup. Jayawardene also plied his trade in various T20 leagues around the globe. His last competitive match was last year for the Marylebone Cricket Club in the match against Nepal at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground.

Mahela Jayawardene makes the revelations

In the meantime, Mahela had a chat with ESPNcricinfo where he went down the memory lane and also made some interesting revelations. In one of those questions, he talked about the current bowler, who could’ve given him troubles and it’s Jasprit Bumrah. Jayawardene works with Bumrah for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and is aware of his good abilities.

Bumrah was one of India’s key players in the World Cup and then was rested for the T20I and ODI series against the Windies. During the interaction, Jayawardene was asked about a current batsman, he sees a lot of himself in. The veteran thought about it a little and then named the dynamic New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson, the Player of the Tournament in the 2019 World Cup.

Williamson notched a couple of centuries in the mega event and also was the Black Caps’ leading run-scorer. He was a bit unlucky though as the Kiwis bowed out of the mega event after their defeat at the hands of hosts England on ‘boundary count’. Kane is presently in Sri Lanka, leading the national team in the two-match Test series, which got underway on August 14.

Jayawardene is also an active participant on social media. On that basis, he was asked about his favourite platform between Twitter and Instagram. Jayawardene’s answer was Instagram since people there put up a lot of crazy pictures.
