Former South Africa wicketkeeper-batsman Mark Boucher has been roped in by South African coach Russell Domingo as a part of his elaborate support staff. Boucher will be spending some time with incumbent wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock prior to the start of the New Zealand series. Boucher will also spend some time with the South African lower order batsmen in a bid to improve their tail-ender batting skills.

Speaking to the media about the appointment of Boucher, Russell Domingo added that it would be a good experience for Quinton de Kock. “Mark is a guy that is highly respected,” Domingo said. “It will be particularly good for young Quinton de Kock to spend some time with him and work on his keeping and do a few fielding drills.”

Domingo also went on to add that Boucher liked working on the batting skills will the lower order. “Mark enjoys working with the lower order because he likes to toughen guys up,” Domingo said. “Mark has got the reputation of having that fighting spirit and epitomizing what the Proteas have always stood for in terms of being tough.

Mark Boucher was a prominent part of South Africa’s reintroduction into world cricket following the end of the end of apartheid. He kept wickets for the better part of a decade and was supremely complimented for his immensely colorful glove work. AN unfortunate eye injury forced him to call it quits. For his part, Domingo was credited for bringing in old players as support. “I always have tried to [bring in former players]. To not tap into some of our past players would be foolish of us, particularly a guy that wants to offer something.”

“It’s by no means the same team that got that No. 1 ranking,” he said. “This is a new team and this team needs to try and set their own legacy and their own benchmark. It’s a great opportunity for these guys to do something special, something that not many people are expecting them to do.”
