Cricket South Africa planning a global T20 league

Clearly frustrated by the lack of international cricketers featuring in the current Ram Slam T20 tournament, Cricket South Africa is contemplating a revolutionary global T20 cricket league that is expected to attract the big names of cricket to file in their participations in the tournament. The new system will reportedly consist of eight teams and will be modeled on the basis of the highly successful and cash-rich Indian Premier League.

A plethora of countries is already attempting to execute the similar strategy to bring in the best cricketers in the world and eventually grow the sport in their respective countries. By hosting the first ever edition of the NatWest T20 Blast, England has become the latest country to join in on the domestic T20 league system. India (IPL), West Indies (CPL), and Australia (BBL) are some of the countries that thrive on the current system of T20 cricket.

Although Kevin Pietersen has signed up to play for the Dolphins for the second time in a row, the Ram Slam T20 league has seen a decline of participation of overseas players in the last couple of seasons, thus leading to the reduction of the crowd turns out to such events within the country. The West Indies stars such as Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, Darren Sammy, and Pakistan’s Sohail Tanvir have been a few big names that have featured in previous editions of the Ram Slam.

Many within the labyrinth of the CSA have attributed the poor financial situation as well as the schedule is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to hosting the Ram Slam.
