Swashbuckling New Zealand opener Martin Guptill has been signed by the county side of Lancashire for the upcoming domestic competition T20 Blast.

Martin Guptill has been in tremendous form since the ICC World Cup last year. Guptill, who became the first Kiwi batsman to score an ODI double century, has come out with an all aggressive approach since then. The Lancashire team is hoping to get his services to the fullest potential in their upcoming domestic T20 competition.

Martin Guptill will be available for six Lancashire games between his commitments with Mumbai Indians in the IPL and New Zealand’s tour of South Africa. Guptill, who is currently ranked number 3 in T20I batsmen rankings, is known for the flying starts he gives to his sides. Martin Guptill has previously represented Derbyshire in the County championship. During the 2011 T20 domestic tournament in England, Guptill averaged 34 in the 14 matches that he played.

Martin Guptill is currently representing the Mumbai Indians in the IPL. He was drafted into the IPL side as a replacement for Lendl Simmons.

The head coach of Lancashire, Ashley Giles, was very pleased with the signing of the Kiwi opener.

“Martin is a formidable batsman, particularly in white ball cricket, and is currently ranked as the world’s third best batsman in T20 cricket,” Ashley Giles said. “He’s currently playing IPL cricket alongside Jos Buttler and will be ready to hit the ground running when he arrives at Emirates Old Trafford,” he added.

“He’s got the ability to take games away from the opposition very quickly once he gets going and I’m sure our fans will really enjoy watching him play,” he further commented.
