Bangladesh ODI skipper Mashrafe Mortaza has been honoured with ‘Greatest Bengali’ award by Shuveccha club. The cricketer was present at the function for the celebration of 20 years of the club. The executive of the club, Mr Shafayet Kamal, was present at the event to award the Bangladeshi stalwart.

Mortaza was extremely pleased to have received the award and shared his past experiences with the club. He was with Shuveccha during the period of 1997. The fast bowler was also a part of the foundation of this club. It has been extended up to 120 persons now.

Mashrafe made his international debut as a 17-year-old and since then has been the vital cog in the lineup. Currently, he is playing only the limited-overs formats to extend his career. The pacer played his last Test match in 2009 and has retired from the longest format of the game.

Bangladesh has performed exceedingly well under him in the last couple of years. It all started with the 2015 World Cup which held in Australia-New Zealand. They made it to the quarter-finals there and things started to change for the team. Then at home, they defeated teams like South Africa, India and Pakistan in ODI series. In the process, they also qualified for the Champions Trophy in England toppling West Indies from top 8 in the rankings.

Mortaza led side made it to the semi-finals of the event and surprised everyone. They defeated New Zealand in the must win encounter and stormed into the knockouts of the event. The success in the limited-overs has also rubbed on the shoulders of the Test team as they beat Australia last week in the first of the two match Test series.

He is enjoying his time off the field since the Champions Trophy. The next assignment for him is the South Africa tour where Bangladesh are scheduled to play 3 ODIs and 2 T20 Internationals. They will also play a couple of Tests but Mortaza will not be a part of the series.
