Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag feels that matching MS Dhoni’s legacy in the Indian Premier League will take some doing. Sehwag reckoned that CSK is the most consistent team in the league and despite missing out a couple of editions due to their ban, they have managed to make it into nine finals and have won four titles.

The former player stated that much like MS Dhoni’s legacy in Indian cricket has been hard to match, his legacy in the IPL will remain a challenge for any captain to get close to.

“I think the captain’s legacy is always remembered by the number of titles he has won. He [MS Dhoni] has played nine finals, won four trophies. Matching this will be extremely difficult for any captain. CSK is the best team in the tournament and they play consistent cricket.

“They have finished at the bottom [7th spot in 2020] once, have faced a ban for two years [2017-18] but the remaining years have been brilliant. MS Dhoni’s legacy is very difficult to match. I think he has another year left in him,” Sehwag told Cricbuzz.

His companion, Ashish Nehra, further highlighted what makes the Super Kings so special. Nehra reckoned that CSK’s hunger to improve is something that all others team must take notice of and learn.

“CSK is not the team that says ‘we know everything’. They just keep trying to improve themselves all the time. In this tournament, the team that makes lesser mistakes has the best chance,” he said. He further pointed out that every player associated with the franchise has strived for success and has ensured to take the team’s legacy only forward.

“No doubt [the CSK players have left an unmatchable legacy]. It will be difficult to see all these players together because the next year is a mega auction year. It is still not clear whether MS Dhoni will be captaining the side, will be playing next year or not, but speaking about CSK’s legacy, every player that has come inside the team has just taken it forward. The way this team has moved forward over the years is a thing that other must see and learn from,” Nehra said.
