March 08, 2020, could very well turn out to be the ‘red-lettered’ day in the history of Women’s Cricket. After all, it will be the defending champions and the current powerhouse of Women’s cricket, Australia locking horns with the ultimate challengers Team India at the colosseum of cricket that is the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

This is the first time that the Women in Blue have made their way into the finals of the T20 World Cup and the Harmanpreet Kaur-led unit will be looking to script history and have their very own 1983 moment that would pave way for the current and future generations to take up this beautiful game.

Narendra Modi and Scott Morrison engage in a pre-match banter

The game has had a great build-up and more than 80,000 people are expected to turn up to support their respective sides. Such has been the euphoria around the grand finale that even the respective Prime Ministers of both countries – Scott Morrison of Australia and Narendra Modi of India- can’t stop themselves from engaging in a pre-match banter on social media.

It all started when Aussie PM Scott Morrison took to Twitter where he wrote “Hey @narendramodi – Australia v India in the final of the Women’s @T20WorldCup in Melbourne tomorrow. Two great teams in front of a mega crowd at the MCG. It’s going to be a big night and a superb match! And Australia all the way”

Replying to his Aussie counterpart, PM Modi echoed everything that Morrison wrote barring the last statement. With Morrison claiming an Aussie win at the ‘G, Modi in his quintessential style said that just the like the color of the sky, MCG will also be blue.

“G’ day @ScottMorrisonMP! It doesn’t get bigger than the India vs Australia Final in Women’s @T20WorldCup tomorrow. Best wishes to both @BCCIWomen and @AusWomenCricket and greetings on Women’s Day. May the best team win. Like the Blue Mountains, MCG will also be Blue tomorrow!” Narendra Modi replied.

Coming back to the match-up, India has been a bogey team for Australia- especially in ICC events- in the past three years. It was India who broke Australia’s fairytale campaign in the 2017 World Cup in tatters with a shock semi-final defeat.

It was India who put Australia’s 2020 campaign in jeopardy when they spun them in a tizzy in the tournament opener. Can the Indians do an encore in the finals or will Australia stroll to yet another title glory- they’re fifth in seven overall editions? An interesting battle awaits!
