Bangladeshi spinner Mehedi Hasan has improved a lot in his bowling and has been a wonderful prospect for the country. Bangladesh is now a much improved cricketing nation than they were five years ago, courtesy to emerging players like Mehedi Hasan who are giving their all to help reach Bangladesh cricket reach new heights.

In two tests against England, last year in October Mehedi Hasan had taken a record 19 wickets in his debut series which was a big achievement indeed. The performance was the best start made by a debutant in a two match test series and the next question that came up was a very important one.

There was much curiosity over the question that would Mehedi Hasan earn a spot in the Bangladesh One Day International team. The question was answered by Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurusingha as he quoted “Let’s not jump too quickly. Bowling in Tests and ODIs are two different arts. I don’t think he will play ODI cricket very soon,” he was quoted as saying by daily star.net.

A couple of months later the spinner was named in the Bangladesh squad for the ODI series against New Zealand but sadly did not feature in any match in the series. But much to the joy of Mehdi, he got his chance to play in the shorter version of the game against Sri Lanka where he performed amazingly well. He took four wickets and also struck a half-century in the only match he got the chance to bat in.

Mehdi’s consistent performance in the ODI’s forced the selectors to give him the chance to feature in the T20’s as well. The player due to his brilliant performances has also earned a spot in the Caribbean Premier League as a replacement of Brad Hogg.

Mehedi quoted “As a cricketer, I want to experience everything. I have never thought of myself as a Test specialist or One-day or T20 player. I want to play all three formats regularly and I want to play each format according to its merit. I am preparing myself for that”

“I enjoy challenges because that brings the best out of me. When there’s no challenge, I can’t perform. It feels good whenever there is an obstacle because once I overcome that I become a better player. When I play outside and try to adjust to the wickets over there, I automatically improve”
