This news will come as a relief to the Bangladesh cricket supporters and the BCB. Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been declared fit by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief medical officer, Debashish Chowdhury on Saturday. Mehidy sustained a thumb injury during the 2nd Test match against Australia.

According to Debashish Chowdhury, the X-ray reports showed nothing wrong with the 19-year old. Earlier, the talented spinner received a blow to the right index finger while batting on the fourth day of the second Test against Australia, which ended in a loss for Bangladesh in Chittagong. He added that the off-spinner should be fine in a couple of days.

Injury scare

During the 55th over of Bangladesh’s second innings, fast bowler Pat Cummins‘ bouncer kissed the gloves of the batsman and struck his helmet, the guard on the back fell off due to the impact. Miraz batted it out for sometime but wasn’t seen bowling in their second innings, when the hosts tried defending 86.

Miraz is likely to get fit for the South Africa series. The first tour match will take place on September 21.  It was earlier reported that Bangladesh will bank on their pacers and therefore a few names will be considered. “We (team management) considered the overseas form of Mahmudullah crucial behind his selection”, a member of team management told Cricbuzz. “Nurul is our best wicket-keeper and we have to take someone who won’t fail us if he is asked to fill the responsibility behind the stumps.”

Earlier, Chowdhury told Cricbuzz that Mossadek Hossain, who had contracted an eye infection which made him unavailable for the home series against Australia, is waiting for his visa to go to Thailand for treatment. He is yet to recover from (his) eye infection and we will send him to Thailand as soon as we get the visa.” he said.
