A state memorial for legendary spinner late Shane Warne will be held on March 30 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Australia. A number of stars among Elton John and Ed Sheeran are expected to feature in the program to honour the veteran cricketer. The state memorial will be attended by thousands of spectators in the ground along with cricket fans from all around the world through live streaming.

To note, the 52-year-old died from a suspected heart attack at a luxury resort in Thailand earlier this month. The news came as a shock to cricketing fraternity as Warne was actively indulged in cricket commentary and panel discussions before his death. Even Australian prime minister Scott Morrison expressed his shock and grief on his passing away.

Warne’s state memorial can be watched through live streaming

The memorial is expected to start on March 30 (Tuesday) at 1:30 pm IST. The live coverage can be watched on the Victorian State Government’s website for free. For Australian viewers, the coverage will shown on ABC, Seven and Nine and other major networks.

“This is going to be one of the great events in the history of the city in this country in many ways, a tribute to a champion,” host of the show and Warne’s friend Eddie McGuire was quoted by Firstpost.

“Music stars Elton John, Chris Martin, Robbie Williams and Sheeran will sing “dedicated songs” to Warne, said McGuire. They are expected to appear by video link, as are Hollywood stars Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman. Cricketing greats such as Brian Lara, Ian Botham and Wasim Akram will be among an array of sports stars joining the service,” he added.

Talking about Warne’s illustrious career, the 52-year-old had played a total of 145 Test matches in which he scalped 708 wickets and still holds the record of being the second-highest wicket-taker in the world (Tests). Warne had also represented Australia in 194 ODI matches in which he scalped 293 wickets while conceding runs at an economy of 4.25.
