Michael Clarke fires back at Buchanan, Symonds and Hayden in the Ashes diary 2015: Former Australian captain Michael Clarke has hit back at teammates Andrew Symonds, Matthew Hayden and former Australian national coach John Buchanan in his new book ‘Michael Clarke’s diary of the 2015 Ashes – honest, insightful, emotional, explosive’. The three who Clarke took on in his book had criticised him around the time he announced his international retirement. 1. Michael Clarke on John Buchanan: (Photo Source: Getty Images) In August 2015 Buchanan was quoted by News Ltd saying, “Players like Steve Waugh, Adam Gilchrist, Ricky Ponting and others really tried to make the baggy green culture something special but I could sense it was under threat and under Michael’s captaincy I can sense it has disappeared a bit and that disappointed me,” Clarke has been a bit too sharp in his response to the former coach and has reportedly written in his book: “I don’t think John knows a thing about the Baggy Green, having never worn one,” “He’s still living off the fact that he coached a team that anyone, even my dog Jerry, could have coached to world domination.” 2. I’m sorry but he is not a person to judge anyone on leadership,” Clarke wrote in his response in the book. “This is a guy who turned up drunk to play for his country. It’s pretty rich for him to be throwing rocks.” 3. (Photo by Jonathan Wood/Getty Images) Around the same time, Matthew Hayden was also quoted by Fox Sports saying, “I’ll never forget the day that Justin Langer couldn’t go bat-pad because he had head injuries,’’ “We needed someone and usually it goes to the youngest in the side.” ”He (Clarke) said – “If I have to wear that, I will hand my baggy green back.” ”The thing is it’s an indictment on Michael. But it’s in the context of this conversation to say that he knew that he didn’t want to do that, he was skilful in other places. But in hindsight, we should have said mate that’s exactly what will happen – we will have your baggy green back and that’s the way it will roll.” “But he learnt from that, he became a much better person and a much better player through those lessons,’’ Hayden said. Responding to the allegations, Haydos charged him with Clarke wrote: “I think I’ve shown over the past 12 years how much I’ve valued representing my country and how much my 389 baggy green means to me,” “If Ricky (Ponting) had asked me to jump off the Harbour Bridge, I would have jumped. I loved playing for Australia that much.”
