Dale Steyn is regarded as one of the menacing fast bowlers from South Africa, who dominated opposition batsmen with his quick bowling. There is no doubt that he is a gem for International cricket who bid adieu to Test cricket in 2019. He has a massive fan following across the globe. Michael Holding, the former West Indian cricketer is also his big fan and included him in his list of top four bowlers across the generations.

Steyn made his international debut back in 2004. Since then, he has emerged as one of the premium bowlers for South Africa, who holds several accolades like most five-wicket hauls and ten-wicket hauls by any South African bowler. However, at the moment he is at the fag end of his career. Also. it is expected that he might bid farewell to all forms of cricket in the near future.

Steyn is one of the great fast bowlers, says Holding

In a podcast, Michael Holding said that he had an experience of playing with and against Malcolm Marshall, Andy Roberts and Dennis Lillee. But he feels that nobody can ignore the impact of Dale Steyn. As per Holding, Steyn is one of the best fast bowlers in this era that anyone would love to watch.

“I have experience with those three guys (Marshall, Roberts and Lillee, but just watching, you can’t go Dale Steyn outside of photography. He has been one of the great fast bowlers in an era. You’d pay to see it,” Michael Holding said in a Sky Sports podcast.

He also recited that Dennis Lillee was also a great bowler as he recovered successfully from his poor back injury with a new action. Moreover, he liked the way in which the former Aussie pacer used to dismiss batsmen despite not being at his prime.

“Lillee had it all: rhythm, aggression control. He was extremely fast when he started, but he had to completely reshape his action after a back injury and find different ways to get hitters out after losing a lot of rhythms,” Holding further said.

On Andy Roberts, the 66-year-old said that he was his roommate for the most part of his career. As per him, they used to talk about cricket on almost every night while having dinner. Surprisingly, he knows a lot about cricket than anyone else according to Michael Holding.

“He was my roommate for most of my career and we used to talk about cricket almost every night. A lot of times, we would order food, we would stay in our room and talk about cricket. You would never believe how much this guy knows,” 66-year-old added.
