Whenever cricket witnesses a big moment, former England captain Michael Vaughan is never far off from presenting a viewpoint. The 45-year-old, who serves as a commentator and analyst now, has come up with his opinion on the ongoing day-night Test between India and Bangladesh in Kolkata.

He has thanked Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly for making the schedule a reality. He expressed the wish that India play a similar Test match while touring Australia in 2020-21. And at the same time, he also praised India skipper Virat Kohli for scoring a century in the match.

Kohli, who was unbeaten on 59 at stumps on Day 1, resumed his innings with his deputy Ajinkya Rahame (51) and the two added 99 runs for the fourth wicket. Rahane eventually fell but Kohli, who fell for a duck in the first Test in Indore, went on to reach three figures. It was Kohli’s second hundred against the Tigers in the long format and 27th in all.

Overall, Kohli now has 70 international hundreds, just 30 less than the table topper Sachin Tendulkar. Of these, 43 centuries are with the white ball; 26 with the red and one with the pink.

Vaughan was all praise for the 31-year-old Indian captain saying in a tweet that be it the red ball, white ball or pink ball, Kohli scores against all and called Virat Kohli the “best batsman across all formats in this era”. The ace batsman also became the first Indian to score a hundred in pink-ball cricket.

Virat Kohli has second-best conversion rate in Tests, after Don Bradman

Kohli also has a remarkable conversion rate in Tests. Playing in his 84th game since making debut in 2011, he has 27 centuries and 22 fifties in Tests to have a conversion rate of 55.1. Only the great Donald Bradman has a better conversion rate than him (69).

Vaughan himself also had a good conversion rate of 50 with 18 tons and that many half-centuries in 82 matches. India were looking firm favourites to win the match as they extended the lead after dismissing the visitors for only 106 in their first innings.
