India came into the fourth and final Test against Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) with a chance of winning their maiden Test series on Australian soil. Previously, they won the first Test in Adelaide by 31 runs courtesy of Cheteshwar Pujara’s brilliance. In the second Test at the new Perth Stadium, they lost by 146 runs and allowed Tim Paine and Co to make a comeback in the series.
Kohli scored his 25th Test century, but his efforts went in vain. However, the visiting team took an unassailable 2-1 lead with a 137-run win in the third encounter at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). In the last contest, India have a made a stupendous start as after the close of play on Day 1, India have racked up 304 runs courtesy of another special knock from the 30-year-old Pujara.
India in a strong position
After winning the toss and electing to bat, India lost KL Rahul and thereafter Mayank Agarwal and Pujara helped their team clinch the ascendancy. Agarwal got out for 77 after the lunch break. Nevertheless, Pujara carried on in his own merry way and accomplished his third century of the series in 199 balls. The Saurashtra batsman is presently batting on 130 from 150 balls with 16 boundaries.
Along with him is Hanuma Vihari, who is batting on 39. In the meantime, former English cricketer Michael Vaughan reckons India have already won the series and it would be impossible for the Aussies to draw level in the series. Moreover, Vaughan feels Pujara has set the benchmark for the upcoming generation in the most traditional version of the sport.
He took to Twitter and wrote, “Well done India .. Great away series Win .. A lesson to all young players .. The @cheteshwar1 way is the way to have success in Test Cricket .. No way the Aussies can come back from this 1st day ..,”
