India are currently playing the four-match Test series against Australia, which they are leading 2-1 after victories in Adelaide and Perth. After the close of play on the first day of the fourth and final Test at Sydney Cricket Ground, the visiting team finds themselves in a strong position having racked up 303 for the loss of four wickets. However, it was Cheteshwar Pujara who did a bulk of the scoring.

The Saurashtra batsman scored his third century of the series in 199 balls and then remained not out on 130 from 250 balls with the help of 16 boundaries. He came to bat after Josh Hazlewood removed KL Rahul, who made a comeback after getting dropped from the Melbourne Test, in the second over itself. But he didn’t let the pressure unnerve him by any means and put a price tag on his wicket.

Lyon takes on Pujara

The experienced campaigner scored his half-century in 134 balls and then notched the ton 199 balls. In the meantime, during the course of the match, a funny incident took place between Pujara and off-break bowler Nathan Lyon as per reports in India Today. During the course of his innings, Lyon asked: “Aren’t you bored yet?” As far as Pujara is concerned, he is used to playing such knocks.

The 30-year-old has been head and shoulders above his counterparts in the ongoing series. Today, he crossed 400 runs in the series and is currently the leading run scorer of the series and is presently on 458 runs at an average of 76.33. He has also managed to outclass Virat Kohli, who is yet to score 300 in this series, being the second top run-scorer. Pujara has also faced the most number of balls (1135).

He went past Sunil Gavaskar (1033) for number of balls in a single series in Australia. Pujara became the Man of the Match in Adelaide for his knock of 123 and 71. Albeit he didn’t perform in Perth, the right-hander churned out his 17th Test century at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Going into the second day of the SCG Test, Pujara would be looking to add few more runs and maybe score a double century.
