Young cricketers getting advice from their seniors, and making it big afterwards is a really common sighting in international cricket. With little experience and understanding of how the game functions, sometimes, it is best for the players who are still young in the international version of the sport to consider an input given by their seniors.

In one such instance, with a veteran giving advice to a new player in the England national cricket team, Michael Vaughan came out and expressed his opinion on Tom Banton, playing the IPL and not the County Cricket, which could pave his way into the England Test team.

Tom Banton, who made his debut for England in T20Is, back in November 2019 against New Zealand at home, was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders for the 2020 season. He was sold at his base price of INR 1 crore. Banton had been doing really well in the English Domestic Limited Overs Circuit and was picked by the Kolkata based franchise, after seeing his exploits in the 20 and even 10-over version of the sport.

In a video released by the BBC 5 Live Sport, Michael Vaughan could be heard saying that he wants Banton to stay back in England, and play in the domestic circuit’s longer matches, and make his way into the national Test team.

Earlier Vaughan had advised Banton to skip IPL

Vaughan said, “I don’t think that at this stage of his career, even though he is a wonderful white ball player… I don’t think at this stage of his career, going to spend six weeks in India, probably sitting on the bench, for the Kolkata Knight Riders, in and around Brendon McCullum which is great, is the best move for his career. I think the best move for Tom Banton’s career is to play 4-day cricket for Somerset, get 2 or 3 centuries.’ According to Vaughan, Banton, if he plays County Cricket, can get into the England Test team easily.

Replying to a fan on Twitter, who asked whether he doesn’t want Banton to be playing IPL, with the T20 World Cup around, he said, “No… I would like him to get in the Test team.’ Michael Vaughan, in the video, also told that he has immense confidence in Tom Banton’s abilities, and he is sure that with his set of skills, he can become a great fit for England team’s number 6 spot. He also added that he has no doubt that Banton will be the future star for the country.
