Former English skipper Michael Vaughan has a very thoughtful suggestion for the ICC. In a recent social media update, Vaughan looked absolutely befuddled at the current plight of the world cricket. The premier tournament in the sport, the ICC World Cup, is all set to be played next year in England. Amidst this backdrop, all the teams have already started off with their preparations for the same.

The top 8 ranked teams have already qualified for the tournament, and the remaining two slots for the World Cup are up for grabs. The other teams will be competing in the World Cup Qualifiers in March this year to grab those two spots. Among the participants of the World Cup Qualifiers 2018 are team Afghanistan. Afghanistan has arguably been the most improved side in the world cricket in the last couple of years.

Their success is pretty much evident from the individual brilliance of their players. Among the lot, the rise of leg spinner Rashid Khan is a testimonial of the same. Rashid’s rise has been so immense that the leggie has surged to the top of the ICC ODI bowlers rankings recently. Michael Vaughan cited this very point in his tweet to raise his concern.

The former cricketer rightly pointed out that there is a very strong possibility that the top ranked ICC ODI bowler, Rashid Khan, might not even feature in the World Cup next year. In case Afghanistan fails to end as a finalist in the World Cup Qualifiers, they will be out of the race from the World Cup. Vaughan certainly hinted that this is a flawed setup and urged the administrators to globalise and grow the game more.

Here is what Michael Vaughan tweeted:

“Afghanistan bowler @rashidkhan_19 is the No1 ODI bowler in the World !!!!!!! Yet he might not take part in the next World Cup !!!!! #Madness … Let’s grow the game please not reduce it …..,” Michael Vaughan wrote in his tweet.
