Mohammed Hafeez has been one of Pakistan’s most dependable players in international cricket, especially the limited-overs fixtures. While he has been effective with the willow, his off-breaks have churned out several wickets for the national team. Nevertheless, the all-rounder hasn’t as an overwhelming period in the last couple of years, especially in the bowling department.
In November last year, he was banned for having an illegal action for the third time in three years. Since then he hasn’t turned his arms over for Pakistan. Windies will tour Pakistan for a three-match T20 International series which starts tomorrow at the iconic Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. However, Hafeez hasn’t found a place in the squad. As per reports, Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur has recently justified the reasons behind the all-rounder’s non selection.
Bowling- The concern for Hafeez
“If Hafeez is bowling, that’s great. But if not, then that’s a problem,” Arthur mentioned. Meanwhile, he also iterated about Sarfraz Ahmed’s selection over Kamran Akmal. “Kamran Akmal is a very good batsman, but unfortunately he can’t field. We [already] have Sarfraz Ahmed as our wicketkeeper. Fielding is non-negotiable. If you can’t field, you can’t play for Pakistan. Simple as that.” Arthur said.
Pakistan has also picked some youngsters to their squad for the upcoming series based on their performances, especially in the Pakistan Super League.“These guys have brought fresh energy to the squad. We have a very strong squad, with all the in-form players. All of them are going to get equal chances,” he added.
Prior to the tournament, Pakistan toured New Zealand for an ODI and T20I series. They were beaten black and blue in the ODI series. They were also beaten in the first T20I, however, they won back to back games and clinched the series. The Men in Green would now be looking to turn over the Windies and continue their impressive run in the shortest format of the game.
