It was not easy for James Erskine to select a boy, who could play the role of a young Sachin Tendulkar in the movie “Sachin: A billion dreams”. Once Erskine had his eye set on Mikhail Gandhi, there were no further discussions as the eight-year-old was the perfect fit for the role a young Tendya.

Sachin’s childhood pictures kept making the rounds way before the release of the documentary, with curly hair being the prominent feature and Mikhail Gandhi’s curly hair is reminiscent of the one that Sachin has. The eight-year-old kid has not been a new face for the industry and audience after having already worked for the Aquaguard advertisement.

Mikhail is also an international face, after having done loads of commercials in Sri Lanka and neighboring country Pakistan. Alongside the commercials, he has also got the opportunity to act alongside Telugu actor Sai Dharam Teja in a movie called Supreme.

The audition:

His life-changing flash happened when he was finally picked ahead of the other 300 kids, who were present there to play Tendulkar’s character in the biopic. Mikhail and his parents, while his audition was going on were never aware that he would play Tendulkar on the silver screen.

His parents told a TV channel that they couldn’t believe themselves upon his selection. “We got a call from a casting agent who didn’t inform us anything about the film he was supposed to audition for. “When we reached there, I found out he’d bagged the role for this film [Sachin: A Billion Dreams]. Almost 300 kids had auditioned for the role,” Mikhail’s mother said.

While the parents were proud and happy, how did the little Mikhail feel when he saw himself on the silver screen? “When I saw myself on the big screen, it was the happiest day of my life so far,” he said.

Mikhail has definitely left a huge mark with his role of Sachin Tendulkar in the documentary “Sachin: A billion dreams”, and his next opportunity is likely to come soon following his performance in the movie.
